Introduction
The RefGen module, when driven with a 10MHz signal of 0dBm or more, provides the reference to the PLL circuits of VHF / UHF transceivers from Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu, and others.
When the 10MHz signal is not available the RefGen is muted, and the radio’s internal reference is powered.
The module is installed near the original reference oscillator and fed from an external 10MHz frequency reference (e.g. GPSD_2). The module is powered from the radio’s power to its oscillator.
If the 10MHz external reference is not available, the RefGen powers the radio’s oscillator.
The radio’s frequency stability and accuracy will approach that of the external 10MHz reference.
The RefGen has been applied to FT736, Icom706MKIIG, IC746Pro, IC7400, IC910H, IC9100, and TS2000.
RefGen 1V4 PCBs are no longer available. If there is further interest, I will do another batch. Contact me at <mycallsign> at WIA.org.au
